It's a little more complex than that. I was reading a popular doujinshika's blog--she was into BeaBato big time--and she didn't like EP5 at all. Reading her doujinshi, you can see why.

It's because she likes the characterization of Beato as a tragic villainess. This, of course, ignores a lot of Beato's actual characterization. It's basically like a lot of people that are hardcore into BeaBato ONLY decided they liked the couple in EP2 and stopped there.

Most of the people in the 2ch thread said they liked both, like sensible people.

Personally, I think Beato is too complicated to reduce to a single role. Basically, she's the heroine playing the role of the villainess. We've seen tragic heroines, we've seen tragic villainesses, but a character that is both is rare indeed. Her tragedy is both in her situation and the role she plays.

Personally, the only problem I had with Higurashi's end was that R07 tried making the mastermind behind all the murders sympathetic. After 7 games in which an entire village has been massacred in the most brutal way, I don't want a sympathetic villain.

Honestly, whilst I usually don't have any issues with bittersweet ends, Higurashi and Umineko are stories in which I really want a happy end. We already get a sad end at the end of each game; so, at the very least, I'd expect something good at the end.

When Beatrice said that no more than 17 people were on the island, she was speaking in present tense.

In actuality, a band of pirates had been forced off course because of the typhoon. The pirates anchored their boat just offshore, and hence they technically weren't on the island.

The pirates did the natural thing and got really hammered. One of them noticed the mansion on the island, and they docked to raid the mansion.

Pirates saw the epitaph and they read it, then, because they were stoned off their ass they decided to kill people in the order of the epitaph because they're pirates and that's just how they roll.

Hey guys, Battler is incredibly incompetent and I don't like him as a character although I think Beato is the best, Ange too.

So I have this idea for a fanfic where I replace Battler with an OC, based off of me of course since I'm not incompetent. Of course, he'll see through Beato's trolling and make the one in a quadrillion chance happen.

One problem, I don't know the solution to the mystery so I can't write my OC making everything better. If someone can tell me the solution, it would be most appreciated.

I wouldn't say she is "good" or will ever be revealed to be such. However I also disagree with all the people claiming she is there to "troll and cause random misery to everyone". She has simply said that she wants to have fun with this game and be entertained for a while. But no one can grasp what "entertainment" means to her. Bern like the surly, alcoholic loli she grew out of is a fucking methodical bitch. SHe may just be dragging Ange, Beato, and Natsuhi in the dirt to fire up Battler and make him miraculously win this in a way that blows up in Lambda's eternal tie wanting face and exposes the culprit.
